Gail says in part:"LAKE SHANNONDALE IN 1978. ON THE ICE WAS PEGGY FOLK AND ME. DON'T REMEMBER IN MY TIME IN THE DALE THAT MUCH OF THE LAKE FREEZING OVER AFTER THAT YEAR."

Well, we can affirm Gail's observation. The temperature in the Winter of 1977/78 reached 20 degrees BELOW zero. Water pipes throughout the County froze even buried 4 feet deep in the ground. It was a REAL cold Winter. Say what you want about global warming, but the lake hasn't frozen to that extent since.
