Years back when what's called Gate 2 was the primary entrance to the 'dale, there was a pond just to the left as you would head up Lower Clubhouse Drive. Incidentally, the road originally was a switchback "S" design before the curves were taken out. It was a great sled ride with those twists and turns to negotiate. Anyway, the pond was a favorite ice-skating spot, the only other being the river, which, although often frozen from bank to bank in the 50's and 60's, was a location only the most foolhardy would try.
