The hurricane had passed at the time of this photo. The lake and dam were still intact to the amazement of many doubters. A smaller earthen dam upstream of our lake washed out and was responsible for the destruction of the roadway on Lakeside Drive. The sediment from that dam filled a good deal of the longest finger of the lake. The size of Lake Shannondale and the solid engineering and construction of the dam absorbed the impact of the surge, HooRay!!!
